HHP Quantitative Research Design Collaborative

The College of Health and Human Performance HHP Quantitative Research Design Collaborative provides expertise in quantitative research design, connecting faculty expertise to funded projects and grant proposals. We provide support for rigorous quantitative research design, including quantitative methods integrated into mixed-methods studies. The Collaborative focuses on ensuring that research questions are appropriately aligned with research design and methodology. Faculty affiliates may additionally assist with data analysis and the clear and transparent reporting of methods and results in manuscripts.

The nature of a collaboration will be driven by the initial dialogue about the proposed research, prior to data collection. Potential roles for Faculty Affiliates involved in projects include:

• Project development: determining the appropriate quantitative methods, including quasi-experimental and experimental designs, matched to the research question(s).
• Data collection: recommending design and implementation of data collection strategies
• Data management: recommending methods for data documentation, organization, and saving that promote reproducibility and replicability
• Data analysis: expertise ranging from exploratory data analysis to advanced modeling*
• Manuscript contribution: methods, results, editing

Information on grant proposal collaborations:

Requests for collaboration attached to grant proposals must include adequate and appropriate funding for the level of effort required for the HHP Qualitative Research Design Collaborative faculty member in contributing to study design, training of collaborators, and data collection and analysis. HHP Qualitative Research Design Collaborative faculty will negotiate appropriate FTE during proposal development and consultation discussions. While every project is different, some prior examples have used these levels of FTE.

• PI/Co-PI [30%]

The Quantitative Research Design Collaborative is not meant to replace existing statistical support within the university. For assistance with statistics, please contact Dr. Hui Bian , Office of Faculty Excellence. The HHP Research Design Collaborative faculty affiliates may offer data analysis as part of a broader collaboration, established early in the research development phase. Early and clear discussions about authorship, including roles and responsibilities, along with byline position, are strongly recommended! While authorship practices and expectations vary by field, we encourage the use of ICMJE criteria (as part of the Uniform Guidance) or APA Guidelines on authorship.
