HHP Research and Evaluation Partnerships

HHP Research and Evaluation Partnerships
What We Do

Our team is responsible for connecting HHP’s faculty with partners who need our expertise to evaluate programs, solve problems, and create new knowledge. By partnering with HHP faculty, you get expertise that goes from laboratory to community, from individual therapy to population health. Our six units have expertise from cells to society – all in service of developing innovative health interventions, improving quality of life, and enhancing opportunities for all.

HHP is one of the leading colleges on campus in external funding, and we have a rich array of experience working with county, state, industry, non-profit, and federal partners.

Services Offered

For HHP Faculty and Students

If you are a faculty member or student in HHP, visit our team’s page to see points of contact for research development, pre-award services, and post-award services. For standard operating procedures and other policies, visit the HHP SharePoint site.

For ECU Faculty beyond HHP

If you’re looking for a partner on a funded project and need a strong evaluation, qualitative, or quantitative methods partnership, our collaboratives make it easy to find the right partner for your grant submission or funded research project.

For Community Partners

If you are a government agency, non-profit, or from private industry and are looking to partner with HHP’s research expertise, our three collaboratives can provide a starting point to negotiating service contracts and grant partnerships. Our expertise can strengthen grant applications, and our faculty have extensive expertise evaluating health programs and services. Contact one of our three collaboratives or Kerry Sewell, Research Development Director, for more information.

Considerations for Partners Outside of ECU

We have extensive experience partnering with government, non-profit, and private industry. It is often helpful to identify some key considerations in working with a public university in North Carolina.

We apply a federally-negotiated indirect cost recovery rate to our projects. Our rate agreement has different rates for research, education, and other sponsored programs.

If a project is likely to generate intellectual property, ECU will have an ownership interest in the ECU contribution as part of our mission and tax-exempt status as a public university.

Except for limited circumstances related to national security and privacy, we must have a freedom to publish scientific advances given our mission and tax-exempt status as a public university.

We can typically accept no liability for products, processes, or services that may be developed with our research results.

As a public university that is part of the State of North Carolina, ECU is prohibited from entering into any agreement where would be have to indemnify another party. Waiving North Carolina’s sovereign immunity is prohibited by the state Constitution.
