Minors and Certificates
The Department of Kinesiology offers two minors which include a minor in Exercise and Sports Science and Sports Studies. Prior to declaring a minor please discuss with your Academic Advisor.
Minor in Exercise and Sports Science
Minimum requirement for the exercise and sport science minor is 24 s.h.
Minor in Sports Studies
Minimum requirement for sports studies minor is 18 s.h.
The Department of Kinesiology offers three graduate certificates. These certificates include a Certificate in Sports Management, a Certificate in Physical Education Clinical Supervision, and a Certificate in Sport and Coaching Leadership.
Certificate in Sports Management
Applicants must be concurrently enrolled in a graduate degree program or possess a graduate degree. In the case of concurrent enrollment students must obtain approval of the director of graduate studies of the program in which they are enrolled as well as the approval of the Graduate Director in Exercise and Sports Science. Students enrolled in the MS in Exercise and Sports Science – Sport Management concentration are not eligible to receive the Certificate in Sport Management.
Certificate in Physical Education Clinical Supervision
This certificate program will provide licensed physical educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully provide clinical supervision for physical education teacher candidates and practicing physical educators. Professionals can enroll as non-degree seeking students, or be enrolled in the MAEd in physical education or the MS in exercise and sport science pedagogy concentration. Admission is based on completion of the ECU certificate application and approval by the program coordinator.
Certificate in Sport and Coaching Leadership
Graduate Certificates provide specialized knowledge in a particular area. The online graduate certificates require admission to the Graduate School. To be eligible, you must have an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree.
The Sport and Coaching Leadership Certificate is designed to prepare future leaders with the skills, knowledge, and expertise in sport psychology, athlete well-being, team dynamics, and administration to serve athletes.
