Community Outreach

The Department of Human Development and Family Science strives to provide high quality services to the community. Along with student oriented community service projects, we also offer services through our Family Therapy Clinic and our Child Development Center.

Family Therapy Clinic
The goal of the East Carolina University Family Therapy Clinic is to provide an opportunity for teaching and learning among professionals and students, and to provide high-quality services to families, couples, and individuals. By offering direct services to the public, the Clinic helps to bridge the gap between theory and practice and provides a unique service to the Greenville community and surrounding areas. Because the clinic is community-based the cost of services are based on the client’s income via a sliding fee scale with an initial intake fee of $20.

Appointments are made by individuals interested in receiving therapy services. Concerned family members, and/or community professionals (e.g., physicians, school administrators, teachers, counselors, ministers, and others) are invited to participate in the therapy process upon receiving the client’s consent. Referrals are not needed. If you are interested in making an appointment, please call 252-737-1415. The clinic is located at 612 East Tenth Street.

Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center

The Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center (NDCDC) holds a five-star child-care license issued by the Division of Child Development of Health and Human Services, and is fully accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The full-day center is open to the public and serves all children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. We collaborate with Pitt County Public School System to serve children qualified for the NC Pre-K Program.

NDCDC clinical teachers supervise undergraduate students as they gain valuable skills in adult-child interaction, developmental guidance strategies, and inclusive curriculum design. Students enrolled in certain courses are required to observe in the observation booths or complete practicums in the classroom.
