What brought you to ECU?

God truly made a clear path for me to attend ECU. I knew I wanted to do something in the health field that involved improving lives through holistic methods and when I started talking with others majoring in Recreational Therapy, I knew I had to go!

What is your favorite part about your current internship experience?

Madison recently interned at ECU’s Pirate Wellness Program. This program was developed by the Recreational Therapy faculty in 2020, and serves clients in the community by offering recreational therapy services. “Nothing beats hands-on learning experience. Although my internship was semi-virtual I was able to learn the virtual and non-virtual side of Recreational Therapy. Putting into practice everything I had learned over the past four years was truly an amazing experience.”

What led you to working in this setting?

Recreational therapy is unlike anything else! Helping someone achieve their best life using methods that are specific to their interests is truly unique.”

What is your favorite aspect of the Recreation Science program?

“The Recreation Science program truly feels like a family. Everyone supports everyone in order to be the best program and it shows!”

Do you have any advice to incoming Recreation Science students?

“Maximize your experience. Get out of your comfort zone and meet anyone and everyone. Build relationships with your classmates, because you will carry those relationships with you in life after college.”
