RT Month Spotlight: Aly Auer

February is National Recreational Therapy month! Join The College of Health and Human Performance and the Department of Recreation Sciences as we celebrate all month long.

Name:  Allicen “Aly” Auer
Degree and graduation year:  Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy, with a minor in Psychology class of 2024.

What brought you to ECU? How did you find this degree?
I decided on ECU because of how incredible the RT program is.  I knew I wanted to work in a helping field and when I learned how much ECU’s Recreational Therapy Department had to offer, I couldn’t resist.

Tell us about your hobbies and involvement at ECU?
I run my own craft business called Splinter & Linen and I am a member of the RTSS club.

What is your favorite aspect of Recreational Therapy?
I love adventure therapy interventions and working with pediatrics and at-risk youth.

Tell us about your upcoming internship or where you hope to intern?
I will be interning at New Leaf Recreation in Indiana working with individuals of all ages with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities.

What kind of setting or future job do you hope to have upon graduation?
I hope to one day develop my own recreational therapy agency based on the Medicaid Waiver for individuals with disabilities who prefer to live independently in the community.
