Media coverage: Birth and Bloom Project

A multi-department initiative in the College of the Health and Human Performance — the Birth and Bloom Project — was highlighted with TV coverage by WNCT and in The Daily Reflector weekend edition.

The Birth and Bloom Project is funded by NC Blue Cross Blue Shield and the ECU Engagement and Outreach Scholars Academy, to improve maternal and child health by providing education and physical activity to local participants.

Fleet Feet owner Chris Loignon said he has happy to work with ECU on this project, led by Dr. Bhibha Das (kinesiology), Dr. Linda May (kinesiology) and Dr. Avian White (health education and promotion). Other community partners include Eppes Recreational Center, Brooks shoes, ECU Health and the Pitt County Health Department.

“We have some moms who are first-time moms. We have other mothers who are fourth-time pregnancies,” Das told the Reflector. “They are all learning from each other, supporting one another, empowering each other to be the change agents for their families and their communities.”
