Lee is new OHA faculty fellow

The Office of Healthy Aging welcomes Dr. Mi Hwa Lee, associate professor in the School of Social Work, as the faculty fellow for OHA.

Lee received her Bachelor of Arts in gerontology and social work from Seoul Women’s University, and a Master of Arts in education from Seoul National University. She received her MSW and PhD in social work from University of Minnesota.

She joined ECU’s School of Social Work in 2018. During her time at ECU, Lee has focused her research on cancer screening disparities within Asian American immigrant populations. As OHA faculty fellow, Lee will lead in the development of gerontology education and service opportunities, conceptualization of OHA events, and continued scholarship about health disparities and accessibility for immigrants and older adults.

The Alzheimer’s Fantasies exhibition will be displayed in the ECU main campus library on the second floor into November.

OHA is excited to co-sponsor with ECU’s Joyner Library an Alzheimer’s/dementia resource fair, Oct. 3 from 1-3 p.m. in the Janice Hardison Faulkner Gallery on the second floor of the library. Come meet local agencies and organizations to learn more about their resources for caregivers and people with dementia. Stay to view the Alzheimer’s Fantasies exhibition and hear the artist’s talk and reception beginning at 3 p.m. This is a free event. There are other age-related talks in September, October and November at the library on ECU’s main campus. Lastly, the OHA Lecture Series will begin in October and will feature OHA research affiliates. More information will be available soon.

  • ECU Health, Memory Bear Workshop: Sept. 21 at ECU Home Health & Hospice, 1005 W.H. Smith Blvd. Greenville. This is a workshop to work with a volunteer seamstress to create a unique bear stitched together from an article of clothing that belonged to a loved one. Questions?   • Beaufort Co. Senior Expo: Oct 3, 1-4 p.m. Located at Washington Civic Center, 110 Gladden St. Washington, N.C.
  • Living on After Loss, led by ECU Home Health & Hospice Volunteers: This is an 8-week grief support group with meetings every Monday from 5:30-7 p.m. Reservations are required. With questions and/or to register, call Sarah Taylor at 252-847-2000 or email at sarah.taylor@ecuhealth.org.
  • Navion of Greenville’s Death by Chocolate! A murder mystery and progressive dinner party Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. Residents will be in character to provide clues to solve this delectable mystery, while enjoying a chocolate-inspired meal while strolling through the story.
