Davis congratulates for role in community health

U.S. Rep. Don Davis posted a congratulatory note on social media for the $49,193 awarded from the Office of Drug Control Policy to the Pitt County Coalition On Substance Use.

HHP faculty members Drs. Lori Ann Eldridge and Jennifer Mathews, with the Department of Health Education and Promotion, have been leaders in garnering funding and community health efforts.

“This is a testament to your incredible work. Thank you for all you do to keep our community safe and healthy,” Davis wrote on Facebook.

Eldridge is principal investigator on collaborative research initiatives made possible through a Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act local drug crises grant awarded to ECU and the Pitt County Coalition on Substance Use, aimed to combat youth opioid and prescription drug misuse by transforming the culture around their acceptability. The Pitt County Coalition on Substance Use maintains a list of pharmacies that have a medication disposal box in Pitt County so community members can stay informed about where they can take their unused or expired medication.
