Broskey research leads to new paper published

Dr. Nick Broskey served as lead author for “Fasting plasma lactate as a possible early clinical marker for metabolic disease risk.”

Dr. Nick Broskey with the Department of Kinesiology is lead author on a paper that was accepted in the Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research & Reviews, titled “Fasting plasma lactate as a possible early clinical marker for metabolic disease risk.”

Other authors representing the department are Charles Tanner, Dr. Donghai Zheng, Polina Krassovskaia, Dr. Ron Cortright and Dr. Joe Houmard.

The purpose of the study was to determine if indices of the metabolic syndrome are related to plasma lactate concentrations in a young, healthy population. Conclusions include that fasting lactate increases in a sex-specific manner after a three-day high fat diet. Thus, lactate could become a clinical marker for metabolic disease risk.
