Business clothing opportunity to benefit students

East Carolina University’s Department of Interior Design and Merchandising (IDMR) is launching a new initiative aimed at helping students create professional wardrobes. Dr. Amanda Muhammad, department chair of IDMR, is leading the charge.

This project will allow students who need business clothing to check out or select items from the clothing closet to use for interviews, events or other opportunities. Current fashion merchandising and consumer science students also would benefit from gaining hands-on and real-world experience through various opportunities such as staging, inventory management, sustainability and market needs.

In order to help with the growth of the closet, Muhammad and her students are looking for support in various ways. You can help by:

  • Donate clothing! Donate new or gently used clothing by dropping off in the Rivers building on campus or mailing. We request that the items be cleaned prior to donating. The Pirate Professional Wardrobe is accepting men’s and women’s clothing and accessories of all sizes. Clothing can be sent to:

Rivers West 331- Mail stop #505
1000 E 5th St
Greenville, NC 27858

  • Supporting financially! Give to IDMR’s priority fund, and in the memo write ‘clothing closet.’ Your financial gifts and contributions will really help take the closet to the next level. Financial contributions will support laundering, clothing purchases, organizational supplies and more.
  • Through donation of non-clothing items. Every great closet is well organized. If you are local to the Greenville community, we welcome the donation of clothing racks, shoe organizers, steamers and other fixtures.
