HHP at university awards
International Education Week at East Carolina University, held Nov. 17-21, included university awards for representatives of the College of Health and Human Performance.

Dr. Sarah Maness, middle, holds her Award for Achievement in International Service and Engagement plaque while flanked by Dr. Michele Wallen and ECU Chancellor Philip Rogers.
Dr. Sarah Maness earned the Award for Achievement in International Service and Engagement. Maness, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Education and Promotion, secured HHP’s first Fulbright Specialist Award and traveled to Ecuador earlier this year to use her expertise in gun violence prevention and emergency preparedness to serve as a visiting consultant at Escuela Superior Politecnica Del Litoral University, her host institution in Guayaquil, Ecuador. She worked with the institution’s Office of Student Well-Being to develop and deliver a series of workshops on psychological preparedness and emergency response during events of mass violence.
These workshops reached over 200 faculty, staff, psychologists, social workers, and campus security personnel, and were delivered in both English and Spanish.
Dr. Ruby Yeh was honored among the Collaborative Online Learning Initiative Champions, and Dr. Jeffrey Skibins was one of the International Site Visit Program recipients.
About a week earlier, the university held author recognition ceremonies on Health Sciences Campus and on Main Campus. Dr. Stacy Warner was honored by ECU Libraries for authoring “Building Community Via Sport: A Better Together Society.” Warner, the Dr. Leroy T. Walker Distinguished Professor in Department of Recreation Sciences and Sport Management, was individually recognized for her authorship at Joyner Library and that is where she received a medal.
