HHP helps JROTC cadets fly into action
The College of Health and Human Performance is excited about its role in another edition of summer collaboration for the Junior ROTC D2 Flight Academy.

Department of Kinesiology faculty members Lisa Frederickson (program director) and Patrick Rider (assistant director) are key leaders, and including Jim Menke, ECU’s director of national security initiatives, and facilitation and support from the ECU Continuing and Professional Education office. The cadets are staying on campus while participating in this unique summer experience.
Several graduate and undergraduate HHP students are serving as mentors or chaperones for the cadets, who are high-schoolers from all over the US. HHP also is home to ECU’s Air Force ROTC and Army ROTC units.
Washington-Warren Field Airport in Washington, N.C., is used for flight training sessions. Cadets participated in orientation to begin the program, and the next day, they all had a chance to fly during the first official day of flight training.

Frederickson reported daily flying has been a highlight for the cadets — steep turns, touch-and-gos, takeoffs and landings.
Program graduation is scheduled for mid-July.
“We are so impressed with this group and excited for the weeks ahead,” Frederickson wrote in an email.
