WNCT coverage: Loy, Pinto, Weidner in Paris

WNCT highlighted the experience gained in Paris by College of Health and Human Performance professor Dr. David Loy and students Casey Weidner and Lydia Pinto, who are both graduate students in recreational therapy in the Department of Recreation Sciences.

They arrived Aug. 26 for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. In addition to attending games and learning more about French culture, Pinto, Weidner and Loy worked with the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee to staff The USA Welcome Experience.

ECU’s trio has teamed with a group from host Clemson University and a couple students from Brigham Young University for this unique, hands-on experience at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“Our students had an incredible opportunity to interact with USA Paralympic athletes as they were escorted through the welcome center,” said Loy, a professor in recreational therapy and director of the ECU Sensory & Observation Lab. “It’s also been great for our ECU students to interact and learn with other universities. We are here studying adaptive sport and culture and the impact sport has on disability.”
