The East Carolina University Department of Health Education and Promotion announced Dr. Lori Ann Eldridge was selected to receive a Health Disparities Research Loan Repayment Program award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The National Institutes of Health website states its NIH Loan Repayment Programs are a set of programs established by Congress and designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers.

HEP department chair Dr. Michele Wallen said these are highly competitive awards and the department is thrilled for the value and significance of Eldridge’s research to be recognized by the NIH.

Another recent honor for Eldridge was participation in the Rights Promotion and Protection Technical Expert Panel. This was sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Program to Advance Recovery Knowledge (SPARK), giving Eldridge and colleagues the platform to discuss future strategies that support recovery and independent living goals, and included to contribute to SAMHSA’s strategies for rights protection and promotion. This panel focused on the critical role of human and civil rights in shaping effective service systems for individuals with lived experiences of mental health and substance use conditions.
