Houmard talks more about molecular study

Department of Kinesiology professor Dr. Joe Houmard joined Henry Hinton on Talk of the Town to discuss East Carolina University’s ongoing role and seeking participants for the Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium. People ages 18-80 interested in participating should call 252-737-1288 or email ECU research team member Dominique Jones at jonesdo16@ecu.edu.

Main purposes of this study are to further understand how people respond differently to physical activity and figure out why exercise is good at the molecular level.

Participants at ECU exercise in the Human Performance Lab for a three-month program with a personal trainer. Participants are eligible for compensation.

Research is funded by the National Institutes of Health. This program, in which ECU is joined by Duke University, Wake Forest University, the University of Florida and others, is the largest targeted NIH investment of funds into the mechanisms of how physical activity improves health and prevents disease.
