Flanagan is HHP’s flag-bearer for graduation
The College of Health and Human Performance is pleased to announce Dr. Katie Flanagan will serve as our college’s flag-bearer May 3 at 10 a.m. inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium for the campus-wide ceremony when nearly 4,000 Pirates will be celebrated as East Carolina University Spring 2024 graduates.
Commencement is an important event that indicates the fulfillment of expectations and celebrates the many achievements of our students. It is also a time for us to reflect on the contributions faculty and staff have made to the programs and processes that help to facilitate student achievements. Each semester, we honor a member of the College of Health and Human Performance family who has evidenced a strong commitment to student success or other aspects of the HHP mission, by selecting them to serve as the college flag-bearer at the ECU Commencement Ceremony.
Our College of Health and Human Performance Flag/Standard represents a group of individuals committed to ECU’s values of integrity, respect, rational inquiry and personal excellence, and that is focused on fostering health and well-being at all levels of society. Flanagan will do a great job in continuing this HHP tradition.
Flanagan served as the Director of the B.S. in Athletic Training for many years and as a Co-Director of the M.S. in Athletic Training. She remained current in theory and skills as a practitioner volunteering with ECU Athletics and serving as an athletic trainer at the invitation of organizations such as a professional soccer team and United States Soccer. Her research relates to policy and safety. She has authored/co-authored several National Athletic Training Association position statements, which have significant influence nationally and internationally. This flag-bearer honor recognizes the decades of mentoring and service Flanagan has provided to students and colleagues on ECU’s campus and beyond.
