Gold recognition for exercise program at ECU

The Exercise is Medicine program by the American College of Sports Medicine honored East Carolina University with Gold Campus level recognition for creating a culture of wellness on campus.

ECU’s Exercise is Medicine on-campus leadership team leading this effort consists of Drs. Katrina DuBose and Amber McEachern, and Lisa Frederickson, who are all faculty members in the Department of Kinesiology, and other faculty across campus. Kinesiology students also serving on this committee are: Bree Wisseman, Kara Kern, Brittany Roenker, Brandon Hester, Kensey Tarkington, Katelyn Vogel and Ashby Dickerson.

The official certificate from the ACSM included that ECU is in “recognition of its commitment to create a culture of wellness on campus and establish physical activity as a vital sign, linking health care and fitness professionals to provide a referral system for exercise prescription.”

The ECU EIM-OC program notably was previously recognized as a “COVID Conquerer” for demonstrating creative ways to promote physical activity during the pandemic.
