Student conference news from HEP

The following are some noteworthy events to highlight involving Department of Health Education and Promotion students at recent conferences and symposiums:

• Nine Bachelor of Science in public health students (pictured above) attended the Eastern Area Health Education Center Rural Health Symposium. Teaching instructors Amy Hattem and Dr. Avian White coordinated the scholarship selection process, and mentored these students before, during and after the symposium for a great student experience.
  

  ECU students in attendance at the UNC Minority Health Conference.

• Teaching instructors Tina Marie Devlin and Kerry Sewell, who also is HHP’s research development director, joined 11 Bachelor of Science in public health students to attend the UNC Minority Health Conference. This is historically viewed as a transformative experience for students in attendance. Devlin coordinated the scholarship selection process, and mentored these students before, during and plans for mentorship after the conference.
• Bachelor of Science in public health graduate Will Murray, who is currently pursuing his master’s in public health and environmental health simultaneously, presented a research poster at the eighth annual Center for Human Health and the Environment Symposium at N.C. State University. The title was: Development of Novel Compact Wind Tunnel for Testing Efficacy of Insecticide Formulated Products in Mosquitoes; Authors: Dr. Stephanie Richards, Dr. Sinan Sousan, Will Murray, Dr. Avian White, Kaya Peyton, Raven Slade.
