A professional development workshop for students, hosted by the Department of Health Education and Promotion and ECU Career Services thanks to Tina Marie Devlin and Suzanne Vincent, produced a great turnout with many benefits.

The event was held in the Belk Building. Students practiced their elevator speeches, updated their LinkedIn accounts and received excellent guidance on steps to take in preparation for a professional conference or meeting. They also had the opportunity to discuss strategies for networking while attending a conference, and the importance of follow-up communication for when they return.

Workshop attendees included students who were offered scholarships by HEP to attend the upcoming 45th UNC Minority Health Conference in Chapel Hill on Feb. 23.

The conference’s website states that the Minority Health Conference is the largest and longest-running student-led health conference in the country. The conference aims to raise awareness around health disparities and mobilize students, academics and community members to take action for change. It started in 1977.
