Mallette.
Commencement is an important event that indicates the fulfillment of expectations and celebrates the many achievements of our students. It is also a time for us to reflect on the contributions faculty and staff have made to the programs and processes that help to facilitate student achievements. Each semester, we honor a member of the HHP family who has evidenced a strong commitment to student success and other aspects of the HHP mission, by selecting them to serve as the college flag-bearer at the ECU Commencement Ceremony. Our HHP Flag represents a group of individuals committed to the ECU values of integrity, respect, rational inquiry and personal excellence, and is focused on fostering health and well-being at all levels of society.
Mallette is an associate professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science. As a certified family life educator, she studies resilience from a strengths based family life education perspective and was honored earlier this year as one of the inaugural Trendsetter Award winners at ECU. This was a REDE-established program to recognize the research and creative work of faculty who have the expertise and enthusiasm to forge a path and inspire their peers.
The student who nominated her to be our flag-bearer provided these comments: Dr. Mallette is a great candidate to be the CHHP Flag-Bearer because she is an amazing professor. She shows up to each class with a positive attitude. She values her students as individuals. It’s nice to show up to a class and have a professor show interest in the things occurring in your lives outside of class. I think all professors should approach teaching the way that Dr. Mallette does. She is a very approachable professor, so it’s never intimidating to ask her any questions or clarify something. She does a great job of presenting the course material in a way that keeps the class engaged. Dr. Mallette is more than deserving of this honor.
What a great way to summarize impact and influence! We are excited to see Mallette present our flag high for a milestone occasion for so many proud graduates and their networks.
