Lamson set to serve in economic, community engagement role

Dr. Angela Lamson has transitioned to her appointment as East Carolina University interim vice chancellor for economic and community engagement, according to a university announcement.

The announcement came from the Division of Research, Economic Development and Engagement in congratulating Lamson, a Nancy W. Darden Distinguished Professor who helped create the nation’s first doctoral program in medical family therapy in 2005 at ECU within the College of Health and Human Performance. Lamson earned the ECU Research and Creative Activity Lifetime Achievement award in March.

Part of the recent ECU announcement included lauding Lamson for her passion and effectiveness in research: “Dr. Lamson has been a valuable member of the East Carolina University faculty since 1999. … Her research connects ECU graduate student clinicians and clinical researchers with community health centers in eastern North Carolina and on military installations across the region. Her experiences building scholarly partnerships and engaging learning opportunities have prepared her well for the role she will assume on July 1.”

Lamson is presented the Research & Creative Activity Lifetime Achievement Award by Chancellor Philip Rogers.

Also in the 2021-22 academic year, Lamson was lead author and worked in collaboration with ECU faculty member Dr. Jennifer Hodgson and ECU alum Dr. Keeley Pratt as co-second authors in an article — “Couple and family interventions for high mortality health conditions: A strategic review” — that was published in the special decade in review (2010-19) issue of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy. Most of the other co-authors also were ECU alums.

“It was an honor to work with such incredible colleagues on this manuscript, many of whom are alumni from our very own Medical Family Therapy PhD program at ECU,” Lamson said. “It is a joy to see their expertise reflected in this decade review. This manuscript was incredibly complex due to the nature of what we were reviewing and evaluating. We believe this article and the corresponding tables will be a great resource for anyone invested in couple and family research that is happening in context of some of the nation’s most fatal health conditions.”

ECU’s announcement also said as interim assistant vice chancellor for community engagement and research, Lamson will lead the economic and community engagement team that includes the Offices of Community Engagement and Research, Continuing and Professional Education, Greenville SEED@ECU, Licensing and Commercialization, Local Community Affairs, National Security and Industry Initiatives, Research and Innovation Campus Planning and Small Business and Technology Development Center.
