Dan. P. Lee Alumni Profile
HHP Alumni Spotlight – Dan P. Lee
Dan P. Lee
Class of: ‘15
Degree: B.S. in Fashion Merchandising and Consumer Studies
These days, Dan P. Lee calls New York City home, but you’re just as likely to find him in Los Angeles or Miami, or even Paris and Milan.
As a celebrity stylist, Lee works with entertainers, from musicians to actors to professional athletes, for press, red carpet and on-screen appearances.
After graduating from ECU, Lee headed to New York and an internship with his mentor, stylist Jason Rembert. He soon transitioned into a full-time, paid assistant role. Today, he balances his own clients with being part of Rembert’s team.
When he’s not on a plane, “a typical day consist of emails and prepping for photo shoots or whatever projects I have coming up. When there’s a shoot, I’m on set all day, and then after, I handle returning the designers’ samples,” he explained.
“Attending Paris Fashion Week in 2017 is a super career highlight for me so far. It was my very first time being overseas and I was blessed to be working. You can’t beat traveling combined with being paid to do what you love!” he said.
Lee credits Dr. Runying Chen’s class on the history of fashion with helping him focus on – and dream about – his future in the field. “After that class, and all the research I did, I knew I wanted to focus on celebrity styling.”
His advice to Pirates? “Follow your heart. It is possible to make a career out of doing what you love. It might not be easy, but it’s worth it. And, find a mentor who’s knowledgeable in the field you want to be in. That helped me get to where I am today. Mentors have been down the road you’re trying to take and can help you avoid mistakes they made.”
